Incorporating features from Indonesia such as the lucky number 8, the flag colours: red and white, traditional Batik patterns as well as the Gate of Heaven Lempuyang Temple in Bali, I showcased my definition of Connections. The symmetry of the gate and strong leading lines guide the viewer's gaze into the image, establishing a strong sense of space. The shades of light blue represent how calm and grounded I feel whenever I go back to Indonesia. Inspired by Mark Powell, I used red biro to contrast the blue, showing the bold colour of the flag. My dad's side of the family is Indonesian and he has the lucky birthday 8/8. Since 8 is Indonesia’s lucky number, I decided to do 8 sets of 8 red dots, flowing through my art piece, to make the piece feel complete.
